The topic of raising the salary of the members of the Sheridan City Council was addressed at a council study session Monday night. Councilman Aaron Linden said it has been a couple of decades since the Council had an increase in pay.

The Council agreed to continue to gather information and data on the issue before officially considering a pay increase at a business meeting. If the sitting Council were to enact a pay raise, it would not go into effect until after the next election, as the increase would only apply to newly elected councilors.

EAST BATON ROUGE - A pandemic-era city-parish ordinance that allowed East Baton Rouge s bars and restaurants to sell alcohol by means curbside and home delivery will remain in effect indefinitely.
The Metro Council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve this modernized to-go sale of alcohol, allowing local eateries and bars to continue the curbside pickup and delivery of alcohol that they ve grown used to throughout the pandemic.
Councilman Cleve Dunn Jr. co-sponsored the ordinance revision alongside Councilman Aaron Moak.

Sheridan City Councilman Aaron Linden, during the council comment portion of the meeting, proposed addressing the Council’s salary in the near future.

When Councilman Linden brought the issue up this week at the Council meeting, he’d requested that the item be placed on the agenda for an upcoming Council work session. Linden is now proposing the issue be tabled until June so the Council can focus on more pressing issues, in particular, collective bargaining with the local firefighters union.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Jackson pastor died from COVID-19 complications on Saturday morning.

His wife, First Lady Beatrice Slaughter, said her husband had a great love for God and His word.
âPastor Slaughter loved to preach Godâs word. It didnât matter where or when you asked him to be on program he was coming,â Beatrice said. âPastor Slaughter was not only a preacher, [but he was also] an activist, businessman, and previously ran for city council.â
