A Fíanna Fáil Councillor claims a vote against zoning HSE land adjacent to the
Louth County Hospital for community facilities was a vote against the expansion of services and facilities at the hospital.
Nineteen Councillors backed a submission by the
Green Party s Marianne Butler,
Fine Gael s Maria Doyle and
Labour s Pio Smith to reject the Chief Executive s recommendation for the lands in Dundalk to remain zoned for community facilities and not residential use.
This reversed a change in zoning on foot of a submission by
Councillor Emma Coffey last autumn, after she was approached by an agent of the HSE who said zoning for community facilities would give them the opportunity to expand and develop new services adjacent to the hospital.

Councillor Emma Coffey has called the Land Development Agency Bill a direct attack on Local Government Democracy.
Cllr Coffey at the Louth County Council meeting held last week raised her grave concerns about Section 49 and 56 of the Land Development Agency Bill, which with the stroke of a pen removes the County Councillor’s democratic powers and imposes an unprecedented obligation on a democratically elected individual Local Authority Member to co-operate with this new body.
Speaking about these issues in the Chamber Councillor Coffey stated: “There has never been any legislation which obliges an individual Councillor to co-operate with a body outside of her or his local authority.

Across the world supporters of Joe Biden have been celebrating the Democrat’s victory, with those plans kicked up a notch last Wednesday as he was formally sworn in as President of the United States.
Unfortunately plans for big events to mark the inauguration have been hampered by the current pandemic, but that hasn’t stopped the Louth County Council from marking the occasion in their own way as they look to honour their most famous son.
In leu of official events taking place, they remembered Biden by turning the fountain in the Market Square Dundalk red, white and blue and Fianna Fáil Councillor Emma Coffey was delighted they did so.
