Dorset Police admit summer visitor increase is inevitable

Chief Superintendent Mark Callaghan DORSET Police have detailed the key areas they will be focusing on as the force steps up patrols to deal with a busy summer across the county. Anti-social behaviour, violent crime, road safety, domestic abuse, cyber-crime and sexual offences have been named as focused areas. A senior officer has said it is “inevitable” that visitors will be coming to Dorset in large numbers due to the expected ongoing international travel restrictions. Weekly meetings are taking place between Dorset Police, BCP Council, Dorset Council, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and health authorities to put plans in place to cope with an influx of visitors during half term next week and the peak summer months.

Face-to-face meetings to return for BCP Council

COUNCILS will have to resume face-to-face meetings this month after a legal challenge aimed at extending pandemic conditions failed. A High Court challenge brought by Hertfordshire County Council, Lawyers in Local Government and the Association of Democratic Services Officers had sought to allow online meetings to continue beyond May 7. But Dame Victoria Sharp and Mr Justice Chamberlain dismissed it, ruling that primary legislation was required. The move has been described as “a retrograde step” by BCP Council’s leader Councillor Drew Mellor. but he said arrangements, including the use of the BIC, were already in place to hold in-person meetings.
