But the reckless driving that has been plaguing Milwaukee city streets has tested his limits.
“There have been instances where I’ve been in a car either with someone I’m working with or by myself and I ve been swearing,” the mayor said. “I’ve been swearing because I’ve seen someone cut me off, veer to the right and go too close and sometimes even on the sidewalk, run a red light, drive with total disregard for human life. It makes me angry.”
“We know that this is a serious quality of life issue in the city of Milwaukee,” Barrett said.

Tom Barrett signed a resolution Thursday officially renaming Old World Third Street between W. Mckinley Avenue and W. Wisconsin Avenue, uniting the street to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to the north.
The resolution was sponsored by Alderwoman
The renaming will extend Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. south, so it will run from W. Capitol Drive at its north end to W. Wisconsin Avenue at its south end. The city is working with local business owners on the logistics and a timeline for replacing the current street signs.

With state shared revenue declining and property taxes capped, Mayor
Tom Barrett has been advocating for a sales tax to bail out Milwaukee’s budget for more than a decade.
Governor
Tony Evers‘ budget proposal would give him his wish, and possibly a path forward for the cash-strapped city.
Evers announced Friday that his budget, due to be released next week, would include an option for communities to enact a new 0.5% sales tax via referendum.
