The proposal to the council was for the extension and easement of Walter Garrett Lane.
Peterson explained following the meeting that the proposal is for the city to acquire land located on Walter Garrett Lane in order for the road to be extended and straightened for the future purpose of creating a commerce park.
âThatâs the first step in trying to attract industry and factories into that area to make it kind of a commerce park for the city of Oak Grove and Christian County,â Peterson said.
âSo, we have been in discussion with the landowners and (city council) to try to get this started. Basically, all weâre doing right now is starting the process and this was the first step in that process to do some development over there.â
The Oak Grove City Council met in person for the first time since the pandemic began and City Hall closed its Council Chambers to the public back in March, 2020. Council members received an update on the fire department and discussed the second reading of a budget amendment.
Before the council began official business, Oak Grove Mayor Theresa Jarvis gave an update on the new fire department building.
Jarvis shared good news that the city was not expecting; the Kentucky Highway-911 road widening no longer required that the current fire department be taken down and subsequently moved to a new location.
