Tempers flare in Bromyard meeting over new car park

TEMPERS have flared in a town council meeting as members disagreed over plans for a new car park on a floodplain. Bromyard town councillors were debating whether to spend upwards of £25,000 on putting a bid forward for a new car park on the floodplain behind Sherford Street. But while the planning committee recommended full council back the idea in the meeting on February 22, there were concerns from Coun Johnathan Lester and others about the sparse details of the proposals. Planning committee chairman Coun Roger Page scolded some councillors for a total lack of understanding about Herefordshire Council s market town investment plan, which will see all county towns contribute ideas to economic development agents Rose Regeneration.

Why 45 new homes will not be built in this Herefordshire town

HEREFORDSHIRE Council will not be going ahead with plans to build 45 new homes in Bromyard as it does not own all of the land it wants to develop. The council, working with Keepmoat Homes, was wanting to knock down existing buildings at the old depot in Hereford Road, to make way for 45 homes, including affordable housing. But despite already being approved, the planning application is set to be withdrawn due to issues over land ownership, a Bromyard and Winslow Town Council planning committee meeting was told. Chair Roger Page said the council had now admitted it did not own all of the land, and objections lodged against the application say a strip of land belongs to Mr Jensen Jones.
