Cod wars as rival chippy was to open right next door Published: 14:36, 05 April 2021
There were cod wars when a new fish and chip shop was set to open next door to one already established in London Road, Grantham, back in 1984.
Gordon Kirby was the owner of The Windsor Fish Restaurant and was furious when South Kesteven District Council gave permission for rival Grimsby Fisheries to open right next door, into what was formerly the Blue Horse public house.
Mr Kirby, pictured above with Neal Kirby, said he was led to believe the new restaurant was to serve Greek food, but feared the worse when he saw friers being installed.
