The following essay was published in 1977 in âThe Open Hand: Essays on Le Corbusier,â one of the first sizeable works containing original research, archival material, and personal reflections on the iconic modernist architect Le Corbusier to appear in English. The volume is one of dozens of MIT Pressâs classic and previously out-of-print architecture and urban studies books made freely available as a digital collection thanks to a generous grant from the Andrew W. A construction crew removed all but the legs of 18 horse sculptures earlier this month in a sculpture garden at the Wise Towers, a New York City Housing Authority complex on the Upper West Side.

sculpted by Sardinian artist Costantino Nivola and his American
colleague Richard Stein back from New York after they were
removed in the redevelopment of a playground under the Big
Apple s Wise Towers.
The statues have graced the playground since 1964.
Nationalist League Senator Linetta Lunseu said she had contacted
the government which had voiced its willingness to remedy a
deeply incomprehensible act .
A Sardinian regional councillor, Massimo Zedda, said the
regional government should ask the government in Rome to act to
