Cost overruns for central infrastructure projects in India reached a six-month high in September, according to government data. The estimated cost of these projects was 21.92% higher in September compared to the original cost, with the government needing to spend an additional INR 4.5 lakh crore ($61.6bn) on projects valued at INR 150 crore and above. The time of completion also increased to 38.63 months in September, compared to 36.96 months in August. Railways and water resources were among the ministries facing the highest cost overruns.
