UK beauty businesses can now obtain government-issued documentation that should enable the export of general-use cosmetics to China without mandatory animal testing on arrival (Getty Images) The UK government has worked alongside the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) and wider beauty industry to digitally issue Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certificates that should enable the export of ‘ordinary’ goods to China without animal testing. After years of collaborative work, the function was made live via the UK’s Department of International Trade (DIT) Import Case Management System (ICMS)​ on May 1, 2021 – the official date China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) said it would start accepting the import of ‘ordinary’ cosmetics without animal testing​.
