Colorado woman walking dogs dies in bear attack

TRIMBLE, Colorado A woman who was walking her dogs was found dead, a victim of an apparent bear attack, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials.
A news release from the agency says the 39-year-old woman’s boyfriend returned home at about 8:30 p.m. Friday and found the two dogs outside, but his girlfriend was not there. He had last heard from her late that morning.
He began searching for her and found her body near a highway near Trimble, which is north of Durango. He then called 911. The identity of the woman has not been released.

DURANGO, Colo. (KRDO) Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife confirmed that they found human remains inside the stomachs of two of the three bears found near a woman s body in Durango, following a deadly bear attack on Friday night.
A 39-year-old woman went for a walk with her dogs on Friday, her boyfriend found the dogs had returned home by evening, but there was no sign of the woman. When her boyfriend went looking for her, he found her body with obvious signs of a bear attack.
CPW used a dog team to quickly find three bears near the scene, a female black bear with her two yearlings. The bears were euthanized and a necropsy revealed that two of them had human remains in their stomachs. Aside from that, CPW s wildlife pathologist said she did not find anything abnormal in the bears and all three seemed to be healthy without any signs of disease.

A mama bear and cubs tracked nearby were euthanized out of an abundance of caution, said a wildlife official.

The body of the 39-year-old unidentified woman was discovered near Durango Friday by her boyfriend after she didn’t return home, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Jason Clay. The two dogs had arrived back at her house hours earlier without her.
Wildlife officers responded and “observed signs of consumption on the body, and an abundance of bear scat and hair at the scene,” according to a CPW statement.

(CNN) A 39-year-old woman was found dead Friday night after an apparent bear attack in southern Colorado, according to a Colorado Parks and Wildlife news release.
“The woman, a Durango resident, was believed to have gone walking with her two dogs earlier Friday according to information provided to the La Plata County Sheriff’s office by her boyfriend,” the release said.
The boyfriend had last heard from the woman that morning, and when he returned home around 8:30 p.m., he “discovered the two dogs outside of their home, but the woman was missing,” according to CPW.
