4th arrest made in slaying of dog, man at Merritt Island home
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that Cory Cabaniss, 25, of Cocoa, was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Service Task Force after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with first-degree felony murder, armed burglary of a dwelling and animal cruelty.

Sheriff’s officials said Cabaniss fled to Franklyn County, Tennessee, where he was arrested and is currently being detained on a no bond status until he can be extradited back to Brevard County.
Another arrest has been made in the drug-related home invasion that left one person dead in March.
Cory Cabaniss is the fourth person to be arrested in connection with the March 3 shooting death of 25-year-old Matthew Nicol at his Hall Road home in Merritt Island, according to the Brevard County Sheriff s Office.
Cabaniss, 25, was tracked down by the U.S. Marshal’s Service Task Force in Franklyn County, Tennessee, where he is being held without bond awaiting extradition to Brevard County. He is charged with first-degree murder.
The investigation showed that a group of men wore black, tactical-style uniforms with replica Drug Enforcement Administration and Sheriff patches, carrying rifles and communication devices while entering the home March 3, according to BCSO.
