To understand the importance of child care in a community, one could ask a parent, or perhaps a teacher. But perhaps one should ask an employer, too.
“The lack of affordable child care in our community has a direct and negative impact on the ability of our workforce to obtain and keep jobs,” Ames Linen President Johanna Ames wrote Monday in a letter read to Sen. Chuck Schumer in Cortland. “To advance and grow with a company, one must be consistently present. Many workers worry about availability of safe, reliable childcare and ultimately choose to exit the workforce because they could not obtain such care.”
U.S. Representative Claudia Tenney is planning to reach out to small businesses in her district with a listening tour of local chambers of commerce.
The newly-elected Republican Congresswoman says she plans to talk with the Cortland County Chamber of Commerce on Monday, March 15, the Chamber Alliance of the Mohawk Valley on the 17
th, the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce on March 26 and March 31 with the Chenango Chamber.
Tenney says the outreach tour will be a chance for small businesses in New York s 22nd U.S. Congressional District to share their experiences dealing with the pandemic and discuss what they need for relief and recovery.
