The military skillset is in demand, by at least the Department of Justice and Correctional Services, which earlier this year welcomed over 1 200 Reserve Force staffers to its ranks.
The departure of part-time soldiers from the reserve component of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) – mostly in search of full-time employment rather than the part-time call-up available in Defence Reserves – was mooted last November. That was when the Reserve Force indicated it was “assisting” the Correctional Services component of Minister Ronald Lamola’s portfolio to recruit for full-time careers.

JOHANNESBURG - The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) is calling for Correctional Services National Commissioner, Arthur Fraser to be removed from the department.
The union says this has nothing to do with allegations against him at the state capture inquiry, regarding his tenure at the State Security Agency.

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) is calling for Correctional Services National Commissioner, Arthur Fraser to be removed from the department.
Speaking to John Perlman, Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says Fraser has not been visible in terms of taking decisions.
Recently he has been doing his own thing and what made it even worse is the fact that the Department of Correctional Services has been ignoring our meeting requests.

JOHANNESBURG - Police union Popcru has called for action against those implicated in the abuse of the State Security Agency and its resources for political and self-enrichment purposes.
The union held a briefing on Thursday on the state of the security cluster in Johannesburg.
It said the recent revelations at the Zondo commission had shown that the intelligence agency and ministry had been corrupted, adding it was clear that the State Security Agency had become an instrument of political enrichment, while it failed on its mandate of protecting South Africans.
