State Sen. John Yudichak slammed Gov. Tom Wolfâs proposed budget for eliminating $5 million in aid that could help Luzerne County recover from the closure of State Correctional Institution at Retreat in Newport Twp. and the pending closure of the White Haven Center for people with intellectual disabilities.
Last year, Wolf promised funding to the communities to help them recover from the loss of about 800 jobs as part of the State Facility Closure Transition Program.
âThe governor made a promise to the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania, to the people of Luzerne County. To my knowledge, not one dime went out to those communities out of that $5 million and in this yearâs budget he completely eliminates the program,â Yudichak, I-14, of Swoyersville, said Wednesday in a video call with reporters. âThatâs a promise broken.â
