[applause] joining us now is ali zaidi, deputy white house climate adviser. thank you very much for joining us tonight. the bill has a new corporatization in it. it takes in more money than it spends, so it achieves some deficit reduction. it has health care policy and it. but you are here because it has the biggest move on climate, that congress has ever done. what are the details of it? well, first of all, it s a message loud and clear to the world. we are back. we are back, in terms of leading on climate. we are back, in the race to lead the clean energy economy. you know, the president ran in 2019, 2020, on climate. he got a mandate, 81 million voters to take on this crisis. what he is doing now is delivering. 370 billion dollars, ten times more emissions reduction
about washington from washingtonab because i tried vey hard until you leave you really can t. how important is do you think the relationship, the culture that reporters live in , they haveonshipsre with each other to h their reporting on how effective? i think it s fundamental. first of all, i don t want to p romanticize the pastas, but it s nonetheless true that fifty sixty eighty one hundred years ago journalism was a working class professionism. they relied on guilds and unions. they hated the elites. it was a profession that you went into to bring you down a peg to kind of expose them to the world. you didn t c go into journalism because you wanted to integrate into a culture. you went into journalismraan because you wanted to throw rocks at it, of course. and beginning in the fifties, sixties and seventies, the corporatization of journalism happen . , disney westinghouse took over cbs. disney started buying abc and journalists became famous
the fantasy of a no-fly zone. for two days in a row now at the white house press briefing, the words no-fly zone have not appeared any single question. most reporters in the white house are generalists. they re not experts in any particular policy area. they have to be ready to ask questions at any time about anytime from corporatization, to health care, gas prices, to nome war with a nuclear superpower. and so, with many of them covering their first war, it was almost forgivable for the first 24 hours or so, when reporters used the phrase no-fly zone, without realizing that no-fly zone actually means aerial combat zone in which pilots on both sides are shot down and sent to their deaths. in other words, trying to impose a no-fly zone in a hot war with a nuclear superpower means war.
just from reporting on it. the united states is a place that even though it appears a margin is in the media that has a lot of pockets and a lot of differences in it. regional accidents and, you know, foodstuffs and so on have gotten a little bit homogenous due to the sort of corporatization of everyday life. still when you get on the ground and you talk to, alabama, essay, you experience 30 different littlebl countries. those places i think have this as this be 26 thing hit, had become almost invisible to us. we are not traveling as much as we use to, not driving around, not talking to strangers we are hearing a lot in theo news about the unvaccinated or the trump voter, or the redneck, the people who actually live underneath the airline routes.
