The Nigerian Army has dismissed two soldiers after being found guilty of killing renowned Yobe State’s islamic cleric, Sheikh Goni Aisami. According to the acting Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Abdullahi Osabo, the suspects who were attached to the 241 Recce Battalion, Nguru in Yobe State, were found guilty on two-count charge; namely: failure to perform military duties; and conduct to prejudice of service discipline. The suspects had their ranks reduced from lance corporal to private before their complete dismissal.
The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday confirmed taking into custody two army officers, suspected of armed robbery and murder of an Islamic cleric, Sheik Goni Aisami in Yobe State. The spokesperson for the police command in Yobe, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim in a statement noted that the two soldiers, John Gabriel and Adamu Gideon, were arrested at the scene of the crime.
