TAMPA, Fla. Family, friends and community members gathered Tuesday to bid a final farewell to fallen Hillsborough County Master Corporal Brian LaVigne.
The visitation began at 10 a.m., with the outdoor funeral service following. Both open to the public, the visitation and funeral were held at Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz.
Sergeant Brian LaVigne, we salute you.
We thank you for your service.
After the service, a procession was held from the church to the Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office District V office to honor the fallen deputy.

TAMPA (WFLA) – Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags to fly at half-staff in Hillsborough County on Tuesday in honor of the late Master Corporal Brian LaVigne.
On Jan.13, Master Corporal Lavigne was killed in the line of duty while responding to a call as backup. Lavigne was just days away from his retirement. He leaves behind his wife and two grown children.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Master Corporal Brian LaVigne’s visitation and funeral will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Idlewild Baptist Church located at 18333 Exciting Idlewild Boulevard in Lutz.
Bystander recalls effort to save Hillsborough deputy after crash
Josh Cascio reports What I saw in that car isn t something I would wish upon anyone to see, said Jacob Thompson.
He lives nearby and immediately ran to the crash to try and help. Me and one of the fellow officers on the scene, we were pulling on the door as hard as we could. We couldn t get it, he said.

Meanwhile, an online fund has been set up by the Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office for LaVigne s family.
Deputy s accused killer avoided trial for assaulting deputies in Georgia

TAMPA, Fla. - Before Travis Garrett rammed his vehicle into the car of Hillsborough Sheriff Corporal Brian LaVigne, killing him, he attacked two sheriff deputies in Camden, Georgia during an incident in May of 2017, according to court documents obtained by FOX 13.
Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister touched on it during a recent press conference. No criminal history here in Hillsborough County. We did find an aggravated assault that was not processed up in the state of Georgia, said Chronister.
Now we’re learning more about that aggravated assault.
