Jefferson County Coroner investigating after skull found in wooded area

From The Tribune staff reports BIRMINGHAM The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify skeletal remains found on Monday, Dec. 21, 2020. The human skull was found by someone surveying a densely wooded area near 7th Avenue South and Exeter Avenue South, according to Coroner Bill Yates. Yates said a recovery team with his agency searched the area the next day but did not find any additional remains. “The cause and manner of death is undetermined at this time, pending additional anthropology and DNA studies,” said Yates in a press release. The Birmingham Police Department is investigating.

Man struck and killed while walking along I-59/20

From The Tribune staff reports BESSEMER The Jefferson County Coroner identified a man struck and killed while walking along Interstate 59/20 North. Derrick Martres Bradford, 38, of Birmingham, was killed on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, near exit 110, in Bessemer. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:25 p.m., according to Coroner Bill Yates. The Bessemer Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
