Updated: 2:40 PM CDT May 2, 2021 Lisa Robinson I-Team Reporter A COVID-19 survivor in Maryland who got to go home Friday after months in the hospital received quite the welcome.After 333 days in the hospital, Steve Polczynski got to leave the Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The staff sent the 57-year-old off with lots of love and hugs. Neighbors and friends decorated Polczynski s street and house to give him a big welcome home. He s an amazing man of God, and we just knew that when he came home he deserved a great welcoming home, said Cecilia Messenger, a neighbor.Polczynski went into the hospital with COVID-19 last June and was put on a ventilator. His wife, Hilda Polczynski, said it was hard on them both when she couldn’t see him in the hospital, but she was eventually able to go in as a support person. Then, everything started going better. When John was on a ventilator because his oxygen levels tanked last year, doctors estimated about 3% odds of survival. But he persevered, crediting the support and prayers of his family and community, along with the medical staff at Riddle Hospital in Media.

He still doesn t know exactly where he got coronavirus in March, but he assumes he contracted it on the job as a California Lottery representative. This was before we knew how to really protect ourselves from the virus: back then, there was no masking, distancing or temperature checks.
