Novavax, one of three companies the Federal Government has struck a deal with to distribute COVID-19 vaccines in Australia, said its offering appears 89 per cent effective based on early findings from a British study.
Key points:
A trial of 15,000 people in Britain is still underway, but an interim analysis found 62 participants so far have been diagnosed with COVID-19
Only six of the unwell participants got the vaccine and the rest received dummy shots

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Brexit allowed Britain to bypass EU s bureaucracy in its vaccine rollout. He urged Brussels to emulate Britain, saying the British are in a much better position now . This comes as Germany and other member-states broke ranks with the European Commission s control on the bloc s vaccine rollout plan.

Under Government plans, the Oxford vaccine will be rolled out from January 4 if it receives approval within days. The Government then aims to give two million Britons their first dose of either the Oxford or Pfizer vaccine within two weeks. Other plans, reported by the Sunday Telegraph, include mass coronavirus vaccination centres at sports stadiums and conference venues in the second week of the new year.
The mammoth effort of safely distributing tens of millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses to all Australians is a step closer to reality, after the Federal Government signs several deals to operate and monitor the national vaccine network.
