Infants exposed to COVID-19 in utero had an accelerated weight gain during the first year of life, but whether they go on to be more at risk of obesity, diabetes or cardiovascular disease remains unknown.
The researchers noted that unvaccinated pregnant people are more likely to get severe COVID, and that prenatal and postnatal care were disrupted during the early part of the pandemic.
Although multiple studies have shown the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in pregnant and lactating women, information on the safety and tolerability of boosters is lacking, researchers noted.
