These are workers at the Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facilities. There are two biomedical garbage processing plants in the district, one for the city located at Sangawadi and another for Pimpri-Chinchwad at Yashwantrao Chavan Municipal Hospital, which have the responsibility of collecting biomedical waste from 5,500 healthcare facilities and then incinerating or recycling it.

A low turnout for the second dose of the vaccine was reported on the second day of the drive. Of the estimated 8,500 vaccine recipients across the district, only 2,689 received the jab of whom 1,425 were healthcare staff and 1,264 frontline staff.

Most sites in the area reported turnouts in the low single digits, others had zero. Officials attributed the slow pick-up to problems in the CoWIN app. Many recipients were unable to find their names on the app yesterday, according to the officials. On January 16, 1,802 recipients had got their first shots against a target of 3,100 in the district. 

First Covid jabs for all Pune healthcare workers by end of next month

Pune: First round of vaccination for HCWs to end next month  Pune: Health officials yesterday said that they will be able to complete providing the first dose of Covid vaccine to all 1.13 lakh registered healthcare staff in the city by the end of March. Going by the current pace of the vaccination, officials would be able to finish giving the first dose to all registered healthcare workers by March-end. Ashish Bharati, chief of PMC’s health department told the Times of India, “We plan to add at least four more hospitals from Monday. We are doing our best to vaccinate a large number of healthcare workers. But we cannot force people to turn up. There are still a lot of people who are on wait-and-watch mode.”

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is all set to begin the procedure from next week. Health officials from the civic body had directed Bharati Hospital to begin providing second doses from February 13.
