After this was met with a positive reaction, Cork City Council has agreed to now permanently pedestrianise them.
The council, and its contractors Lagan Asphalt Ltd, will begin resurfacing works on Caroline Street, Pembroke Street, Oliver Plunkett Street, Cook Street and Maylor Street on 12 April.
Depending on the weather, similar works are expected to begin on Paul Street, St. Peter and Paul’s Place, Little Ann Street and Little Cross Street on 19 April.
In a statement, Cork City Council said that on these dates, traders are encouraged to arrange deliveries for before 9.30am as once works begin, the streets will be inaccessible to vehicles.

Tributes are paid to long-serving Cork school principal as she gets ready to retire
Principal Regina O Sullivan is retiring- she started at the school in 1982 and has been Principal since 2001.

THE Lord Mayor of Cork Joe Kavanagh has paid tribute to Scoil Mhuire agus Eoin principal, Regina O’Sullivan who will retire from the school on Tuesday following 38 years of dedicated service at the Mayfield national school.
The Lord Mayor said Ms O’Sullivan was well-known and well-liked, and would be missed by everyone.
“Regina is very well known and liked in the local community of Mayfield and so many families have had the pleasure of interacting so positively with Regina over the years.
