Cork City Council is warning that there is a risk of flooding in parts of the city this weekend.   A high astronomical spring tide will occur at 6.40am on Saturday morning, and the local authority said this tide is predicted to cause minor localised flooding along low-lying quays such as Morrison’s Quay, Fr Mathew Quay, Fr Mathew St, Union Quay, Trinity Bridge, South Terrace, Rutland St, Sawmill St, Lavitts Quay, Kyrls St, Kyrls Quay, Crosses Green, Proby’s Quay, Sharman Crawford St, and Wandesford Quay.

Cork city centre braced for significant flooding as tides and winds to batter Rebel county

Cork’s city centre is at risk of significant flooding on Wednesday as a strong tidal surge and south-easterly winds create a dangerous combination, the local authority has warned. Cork City Council has predicted that as well as low lying quays, locations most at risk include Lapps Quay, McSwiney Quay, Albert Quay, Kennedy Quay, French s Quay, Lancaster Quay, Sullivan s Quay, the South Mall including Patrick Street, the Grand Parade and Washington Street. The council has also said that some areas of the city may experience significant localised flooding from tomorrow evening. A period of “very high astronomical Spring Tides” will begin from tomorrow and last until Wednesday evening.
