Within the next several weeks, 12 communities across the state will once again have full-time, dedicated service from a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conservation officer. In addition, a new CO will join the Enforcement Division’s Aviation Unit as a pilot.

The 13 conservation officers who will occupy these previously vacant stations have spent the past year training in all aspects of public safety and natural resources protection.
Ryan Brown will fill the vacant Karlstad station, and Corey Sura will fill the Baudette No. 2 station in Lake of the Woods County.
The new COs were selected from among hundreds of applicants and spent May to August at the Conservation Officer Academy at Camp Ripley near Little Falls, Minn. After initial training, where they learned all aspects of the job in classroom and scenario-based situations, they worked for 16 weeks in the field with experienced officers throughout the state.

New graduates of the Conservation Officer Academy at Camp Ripley are taking on their first station assignments. Officers Cassie Block and Stephen Westby are beginning assignments in the vacant Willmar east and Madison stations, respectively.

ST. PAUL Two vacant conservation officer positions in west central Minnesota will be staffed as the latest graduates of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Academy complete their field training and begin work at new stations.
In the Willmar area, Officer Cassie Block will serve in the Willmar east station, which includes the eastern half of Kandiyohi County. Block’s arrival will return the local complement of officers in the Willmar area to two.
