The Mets have been in the market for another starting pitcher for quite some time, and that necessity only increased once Jacob deGrom landed on the injured list.
With their lack of starters due to other injuries, the Mets have certainly been on the phones with other teams looking for a starter.
“I would say as of today, that’s our top priority. It has been for a while…” Mets acting GM Zack Scott told Jon Heyman on Big Time Baseball. “I always say, I do subscribe to that old adage that you can never have enough pitching, and I do think in the seasons, in my experience, that have fallen apart, that’s been the main reason why they have fallen apart.”

Acquired in a minor trade with the Giants earlier this month, Banda’s now set to appear in his fifth consecutive big league season, although he only has 51 1/3 combined innings under his belt. Banda hasn’t yet had sustained big league success, with just a 5.96 ERA/4.66 SIERA over that time. The southpaw was well-regarded as a prospect before being set back by injuries, thanks largely to some excellent minor league numbers up through Double-A. Banda hasn’t translated his low minors’ dominance to Triple-A though, pitching to a 4.99 ERA with average strikeout and walk rates (22.6% and 9.2%, respectively) over parts of five seasons.
CINCINNATI (AP) Jeff McNeil hit a tiebreaking single in the 11th inning, Kevin Pillar added a three-run homer and the New York Mets went deep seven times Monday night to pull out a wild 15-11 win over the slumping Cincinnati Reds.
Michael Conforto connected twice, including a solo shot that capped a five-run outburst in the 11th as the NL East leaders finally put this one away and handed Cincinnati its fourth straight loss to open the second half.
New York shook off a season-high four errors all in the first two innings. Three were committed by shortstop Luis Guillorme, subbing for injured Francisco Lindor.
