Acomb postmaster retires after 33 years service

Paul Baker was praised for his ‘marvellous’ service after stepping down from the role. Acomb Parish Council vice-chairman, Charles Enderby made a presentation to Paul on behalf of the community on April 21, wishing him well for his retirement and thanking him for his service. He also received thank you cards and messages from the children at Little Oaks Nursery and Acomb First School. Unfortunately, current coronavirus restrictions on meeting others prevented a large turnout. Paul said he had thoroughly enjoyed being the village’s postmaster. On his plans for his retirement, he said he had a lot of work to do on his property.

Acomb post office to temporarily close

Acomb postmaster Paul Baker is retiring after 33 years of service. The branch will be closing temporarily at 1pm. The postmaster from Stocksfield Post Office will be offering a mobile service from Acomb Village Hall carpark until there is a permanent solution. The mobile service will begin on Tuesday, April 27 and is scheduled to stop at the Village Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays between 9.40am-10.40am. Alternative Post Office branches in the area are Corbridge Post Office, on Princes Street, and Hexham Post Office, on Battle Hill. Norman Robson, Chair of Acomb Parish Council, said an independent group has been set up within the community, with the support of the Parish Council, to assist the Post Office in finding a new postmaster.
