A 16-year-old faces a vehicular homicide charge after the Coralville Police Department alleged she was using a social media application on her cellphone when her car struck bicyclist Andy Pavlovec on April 7.
Pavlovec died of his injuries the next day.
On April 7, before 6 a.m., the driver was heading southbound in the 2400 block of 12th Avenue when her car hit Pavlovec from behind, according to Coralville Police Chief Shane Kron.
He said the driver was going more than 25 mph over the posted speed limit and was using social media on a cellphone at the time of the collision. Kron said the speed limit in that block is 35 mph.
