about access to safe abortion over the last 50 years. what advice do you have for women in florida and oklahoma which have just enacted abortion bans similar to the one in texas that your clinic continues to challenge? so my advice for people is to know that abortion is still legal in this country. that the people who are trying to restrict your access to safe abortion don t reflect the values of the majority of people here. there are multiple networks in this country here to help you. abortion funds, abortion clinics. we are here to guide you to the place where you can still get access to safe abortion. there are many networks helping people with travel. helping people with funding. whole women s health and others all across the country are really trying to work together to mitigate the damage and the harm that is already being done by bills like sb-8 and the copy cats across the country.
in los angeles, that they ve increased security around synagogues as a precautionary measure. of course, we re hearing from israel. they have been quick to offer their support in all of this. this is obviously something that s felt globally across the global jewish community. but i suppose there are congregations that have to be thinking about the security posture over the next day or two because of the potential for copy cats. that sort of thing. that is not unheard of. it s not just for the next day or two. when you walk into an american synagogue, more likely than not, you have to walk past security. you have to get your bag searched. these are the realities we live in day in and day out and it is heartbreaking to go to a place that s supposed to be a sanctuary, a place that s supposed to give us a peace and wholeness and to be reminds of our very real insecurity. it s shattering.
when whether it s in the places we pray or the supermarkets where we shop where jews have to worry for their lives and they have to literally do a calculations will i be killed? will i be taken hostage? will i survive? even in the sacred spaces, don, we are not safe, no one is safe. this is a failure not of the jewish community but america and we really have to confront that fact. jewish communities are under high alert today and jonathan credited the fbi for helping there. the fbi is warning faith-based communities that will remain targets for violence. can an attack like this provoke copy cats like this? i hope not but that s my question. of course it could. that s a prime motivator behind the fbi s warning tonight. it yet another sad and tragic aspect of this wave of violence
the feds, increasing patrols around synagogues in l.a. as a precautionary measure. again, there s no indication of any threat here in los angeles, but that is what we would be seeing because authorities have to be on guard against any potential copy cats. they want to have those resources. then i think it s worth pointing out that our heart has to go out to the jewish community right now. i walk around l.a. i walk past a synagogue. this is the faith that requires armed security outside their doors. i don t have armed security outside my church. so they live with the fear of possible attack and violence and now we re seeing their place of worship struck by this hostage taker. our heart goes out to them, jim. well said. perfectly said. thanks, as always. we re going to take a quick break. more developments in just a moment. drink you choose. try boost glucose controlĀ®. it s clinically shown to help manage blood sugar levels and contains high quality protein to help manage hunger and s
copy cats like this? i hope not but that s my question. of course it could. that s a prime motivator behind the fbi s warning tonight. it yet another sad and tragic aspect of this wave of violence that disturbed mentally disturbed people who are maybe leaning in that direction see like things like this that is a an inspirational moment or triggering moment to set them into motion. at the end of the day as we saw in this case lives were saved because people were prepared in advance. that s what you re seeing from the fbi warning other synagogues and jewish institutions to think forward, be defensive and be prepared. andrew, i want to play this for you. this is jeffrey cohen, one of the survivors from the hostage situation talking about how they were able to get out. listen.
