Initially, the event was planned to be held all weekend at the Copperas Cove Walmart.
The Copperas Cove Chamber & Visitors Bureau will be at the Main Street building Friday to take donations.
Despite the cancellation, Walmart is donating $1,000 to the district to purchase supplies, district spokeswoman Wendy Sledd said via email Monday.
After the event Friday, the supplies will be distributed to the campuses.
Those who cannot donate physical supplies but would like to donate money can do so at https://bit.ly/STBCC21.
The event will formally kick off at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with the opening ceremonies.
All festivities will take place at the Copperas Cove City Park, 1206 W. Ave. B.
âItâs actually amazing. We are so excited that people are looking forward to getting out and seeing the community, seeing each other,â said Ross Oliver, interim chamber president, of being able to hold the event again. âWe did hear that Bluebonnet Fest (in Burnet) had the largest showing theyâve had in a long time, and we are expecting the same thing.â
Weekend passes for the event that runs through Sunday are $5 for a carload, or $1 per person for individuals.
Kathy McCain, president of Blue Santa, said this yearâs numbers were 230 families, or 540 children.
During the distribution, each child typically receives a large toy and a small item, such as coloring books, crayons or stuffed animals.
âWe have a lot of kids ask for art type items,â McCain said. âWe had some nice paint kits we put together this year.â
Each family also receives a board game for the children to share and enjoy.
âThereâs typically close to $25 to $35 (worth) of gifts for each child,â McCain said.
Blue Santa began in 1999 and serves children in need in Copperas Cove and Pidcoke.
