SAO PAULO - The president of Palmas football club and four of its players were killed on Sunday when a small plane taking them to a Brazilian cup game crashed on take-off.
The fourth tier club said president Lucas Meira, along with players Lucas Praxedes, Guilherme Noe, Ranule and Marcus Molinari, all died. The pilot, named only as Wagner, was also killed. The plane took off and crashed at the end of the runway at the Tocantinense Aviation Association,” a small airfield near the city of Palmas, the club said. We regret to report there are no survivors.”

Four players and the president from the Brazilian football club Palmas died in a plane crash on Sunday. The group were travelling separately from the rest of the team after testing positive for coronavirus, the club have said.

Rio De Janeiro, Jan 25 : Four players and the president of Brazilian football club Palmas lost their lives after their plane crashed ahead of a local cup match.
President Lucas Meira and players Lucas Praxedes, Guilherme Noe, Ranule and Marcus Molinari died on Sunday when the plane plummeted to the ground shortly after takeoff at the Tocantinense airfield, near the northern city of Palmas, the club said in a statement. The pilot, identified as Wagner, was also killed, reports Xinhua news agency.
The small aircraft was taking the group to a Brazilian cup game on Sunday - and it has been reported, tragically, that there were no survivors. The plane came down shortly after take-off.
