Prosecutors will not charge the Georgia State Patrol troopers who shot and killed an environmental protestor during a confrontation at the planned site of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.
Georgia activists against a proposed police and firefighting training center have called on Democratic senators to denounce Atlanta's plan to check every signature on a petition to put the issue to voters.
Testing by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation shows there were characteristics of gunshot residue on the hands of a protester who was shot and killed by troopers during a sweep around the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, according to a report released Tuesday.
Lawyers for the family of the protestor shot by state troopers at the site critics have nicknamed "Cop City" claims they were "looking death in the face, hands raised, when killed."
A spokesperson for the family said a private autopsy paid for by the family reveals that 26-year-old Manuel Teran was shot at least thirteen times. Protestors have demanded the release of video or audio from that morning, but the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said there is none.
