Gardaí have issued an appeal for help in an appeal in which they confirmed further details surrounding a fatal collision in the centre of Portlaoise.
Gardaí confirmed that they attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the busy N80 involving two cars that occurred at approximately 1.45pm on Wednesday, April 28 on Coote Street, Portlaoise. The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The body of the man has since been moved to Portlaoise Mortuary and a post mortem will be conducted at a later date.

A man in his 60s has died this afternoon in Portlaoise after the car in which he was driving seemed to lose control and cross the street.
The incident occurred around 2.30pm when a car on Coote Street, travelling in the direction of Mountmellick, veered across the road, colliding with another car, before coming to a stop.
Medical services responded and attended on the scene where the driver was given emergency attention, but died soon after.

Cyclist was knocked off bike by stolen car

A 19-year-old man who was the passenger in a stolen vehicle which knocked a cyclist off their bike in Portlaoise before it hit another car claimed he had little recollection of the incident as he had taken alcohol and tablets at the time of the offence.
Jack Doyle (19), 4 Millennium Court, Tullow Road, Carlow, was charged with being a passenger in a stolen vehicle, threatening or abusive behaviour, and being intoxicated in a public place.
The vehicle he was a passenger in was stolen from Green Lane in Carlow on August 13, 2020.
