Two Iron Station men die in collision in Lincoln County

LINCOLNTON – On Sunday, Feb. 7, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a double fatal collision in Lincoln County on Mount Zion Church Road near Old Plank Road.  A 2017 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling south on Mount Zion Church Road, crossed the center line, and collided head-on with a northbound 2011 Nissan Altima.  Subsequent to the initial collision, a northbound 2016 Nissan Rogue also collided with the Altima. The Chevrolet was being driven by Cooper Gregory Snipes, 21, of Iron Station.  He was transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte but succumbed to his injuries.  The Altima was being driven by Mahlon Brewster Strope Jr., 86, of Iron Station.  He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  The Rogue was being driven by Lydia Robinson Francis, 24, of Dallas.  She was transported by paramedics to Atrium Health Lincoln with non-life-threatening injuries.

At about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene on Mount Zion Church Road, near Old Plank Road. A southbound 2017 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Mr. Snipes crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound 2011 Nissan Altima, driven by Mr. Strope. A northbound 2016 Nissan Rogue also collided with the Altima.
