Commercial LPG will now cost Rs 1,757 per 19-kg cylinder in the national capital Delhi as against Rs 1,796.50; domestic LPG prices remained unchanged at Rs 903 per 14.2-kg cylinder
The PMUY was launched in 2016 to provide poor households access to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a cooking fuel and discourage the use of traditional kitchen fuels like firewood and cow dung cakes, which are more polluting and pose health hazards. Over the years, the PMUY has emerged as a key welfare scheme of the Narendra Modi government.
Hours before AICC leader Rahul Gandhi rolled out the Gruha Lakshmi scheme involving a monthly payout of Rs 2000 per woman head of a family, Shivakumar, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, said the monthly transfer of cash under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme included Rs 500 to soften the blow due to the increase in prices of LPG cylinders.
