Cook Islands tourism operators – and that s nearly everyone in the island archipelago – are excitedly awaiting details of the resumption of inbound quarantine-free travel. Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern are expected to announce a date this afternoon, after it is signed off by the New Zealand Cabinet. They will announce a final checklist for the two country s health directors to tick off in the next fortnight, before New Zealanders are finally able to check in their snorkels and togs for their flights to Rarotonga.

May is the month the Government has circled for a Pacific bubble and Cook Islands officials may have given an early clue.  Newshub has learned there will be an announcement on Monday.  For many businesses, it s been a long time coming and optimism has been premature in the past.  This time the Cook Islands testing laboratory that has been one of the biggest barriers to a bubble is set to be up and running in just over a week.
