Great. In the evenness of the reporting we need to go beyond to preach to the choir. Most of us here living in a bubble are aware of the issues that you go to new york and the east papers and you know you dont see the same type of reporting where theres very little of it and you dont see it from the perspective of the border. I dont want to say its mainstream in terms of speaking about a reality that makes even us feel as if we are out of reality. I had a person from back east tommy what you all are demanding really is kind of out of the pale in terms of the number of immigration reform. You are outside the Fringe Groups in many ways. And i have trouble really digesting that because we are on the border but isnt that more reason to have the perspective thats part of the mainstream conversation . So they basically to answer your question, i would encourage more evenness in terms of reporting by including not only the voices of the border but also of the minority populations as well whic
Out anybody else that they dont think is ideologically pure that we have forgotten how to win races. It is about winning at the end of the day. If you want to make the country more conservative, if you want to shape the world more in your image, you have got to win elections. Rose the Republican Party is a conservative party. Uhhuh. Rose is it a moderate party . Not right now. Rose well i mean can you name me five moderates who have elected office in the Republican Party . Well,. Rose at the state or fall level . And here is part of the problem there are a lot of people out there who think Chris Christie is a moderate. Rose but thats now how in defines himself. Se not a moderate historically those people who have come into the party and redefined who everybody was and think they can rearrange the deck chairs on the party that right now in real estate chul races is the titanic, they dont understand the history of the Republican Party or else they wouldnt be calling Chris Christie a mode
Says todd miller is next on book tv taking a critical look at the u. S. Border patrol and allied operates. Mr. Miller argues that the Border Patrol which does far more than just protect our borders with mexico and canada has become a bloated bureaucracy that caters to a private profit profithungry industry that is out of control. This is about an hour. Good evening. It is great to be here, but i remember i think it was the late 1990s, maybe even the mid1990s when i went to the one on the smell avenue. There was right before my first trip to mexico. I went looking for all kinds of books about mexico i remember sitting in that shares their reading and reading and writing and reading because i have always had a special affection for changing hands. Even though i live in tucson i was often here. It is great to be here. My book Border Patrol nation reminds me of dispatches from the front lines of Homeland Security. This is my version of it. It came out two months ago, but my book probably l
Picture all of us americans in a car together. President trump is the driver. And he is trying to drive us off the road. He is trying to crash the car. In this analogy, the car is our democracy. It is old. Its got a lot of miles on it but its still running, strong. Its been well maintained. It stays humming along. It stays on the road through voting, through elections. But the driver, ever since 2016, i dont know, either the he wants to go offroading or he wants the car all to himself or he doesnt know where hes going. Somethings going on with the driver. Hes trying to crash the car. But all of us are along for the ride. The president s rhetoric about the coming election is the equivalent of trying to crash a car. Through his tweets, through his statements he is eroding confidence in the democratic process, making a crash more likely, and hes doing it for no good reason. Its just his own ego. And his media pals are helping him do it. So everybody else, besides the protrump media, all t
Hi there. Im Stephanie Ruhle live from nbc news headquarters in new york city. It is thursday, august 20th. Lets get smarter. Tonight is the night. We are just 12 hours away from the grand finale of the dnc when joe biden will officially accept his partys nomination for president. Last night, it was his running mate Kamala Harris who took center stage, an historic moment. The first woman of color ever to take her place on a major party ticket. You are pushing us to realize the ideals of our nation. Pushing us to live the values we share. Decency and fairness, justice and love. We have a chance to change the course of history. Were all in this fight. You, me and joe. Together. The other big speaker last night, the warmup act, was former president obama who waited until this convention to level some of his harshest criticism yet of donald trump. In fact, we may have never seen one president take down another the way we did last night. Take a listen. For close to four years now, he has sh
