Alberta grants rural rodeo COVID-19 exemption as cases hit month-plus low
A central Alberta rodeo went forward Saturday after Alberta Health granted organizers an exemption from ongoing public health restrictions.

Hundreds of Calgarians who received parking tickets while getting COVID-19 shots in the city’s downtown won’t feel their sting.
After complaints from some of those who were issued $40 fines while being inoculated at the mass vaccination site at the Telus Convention Centre, the Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) which operates the parkade beneath the building, said Friday they won’t have to pay more than 1,500 of them.

“The CPA is pleased to support the health and safety of Albertans through our alignment with the clinic, and as such parkers who received a ticket at the Convention Centre Parkade between April 5th and 30th do not need to take any further action,” said a statement from the city-owned entity.

Rates of COVID-19 infection in Alberta have reached a height not seen since the peak of the province’s second wave of infections in mid-December.
The province reported 1,857 new cases of the novel coronavirus, as well as the first case of a new “double mutant” variant of the virus.

The 1,857 new infections mark the third-highest daily total ever in Alberta, and the most since Dec. 13, when 1,868 cases were logged. They come from about 17,524 tests, representing a 10.6 per cent positivity rate.
