PROVIDENCE – Collection of the 5% hotel tax in Rhode Island in February totaled $521,797, a 45% decline year over year, the R.I. Department of Revenue said on Monday.
Traditional hotels accounted for $469,049 of the total collection for the month, while hosting platforms and room resellers accounted for $52,748.
Regional tourism districts were allocated $202,632 of the tax, the largest share of which was for Aquidneck Island at $87,193. The Convention Authority of Providence saw the largest nominal decline year over year of all districts, galling $79,623 year over year to $25,260 in February.
