it s really just a waste of time and foolishness. it s not going to stop me from doing my job. and i don t think that it s an insult to remind me that i m a black woman. so it is a waste of their time, but we do understand that some people are unstable, some people think the nerve of me to actually do my job, but i took an oath, i made a commitment to the citizens in my community, and i m going to do my job. do my job. and that was february of last year. home county district attorney fani willis saying her security had doubled already at the start of that investigation of the former president. well, now a year down the road, district attorney willis has convened a special, or is convening a special grand jury to consider the particulars of that case. and she has now called for backup in terms of her security. she s written a letter to the special agents in charge of the fbi, the fbi s atlanta field office. because of new concerns for the safety, not just of her team,
these assets. if they were trying to get a bank loan, they would say, we re solvent, pleesz give us this bank loan. the grand jury is looking at potential tax charges involving ivanka trump. there was this very large payment from the trump organization to ivanka trump as a, quote/unquote, consultant. while she worked there, there could be tax implications. allen weisselberg could be as well. what evidence are we looking at? michael cohen. he has talked to prosecutors. he has tweeted himself,ly be the star witness, let s see. it s michael cohen. let s see if that pans out. we know the d.a. has the tax returns. they went all the way to the supreme court to get those tax returns and millions of other financial documents. they obtained information earlier from deutsche bank, the lender to the trump organization and then this, we don t know. this is a question mark.
email who could say, look, my lawyers told me this was all okay. so it could be a case against the organization, is that what you re saying? it totally could. one thing i want to point out, the new york grand jury is different from the federal grand jury. one way, you can t present hearsay evidence. it means the evidence you have to present is the same quality you have to present at trial. that makes it harder. witnesses get immunity. so you have to build your case before you go in and be pretty sure. that s another reason that i think the office itself is fairly convinced it has a case. but, again, right, we don t know. it could be against an organization, other individuals within the organization. we really don t know and won t know because of that grand jury secrecy. the witnesses have to get before the grand jury. what does that tell about allen weisselberg? if he testified before the grand jury. right. unless he s waived.
happening in that room. there will be no cameras if there. we will not get daily transcripts. the hallmark of the grand jury is secrecy and importantly the grand jury has the power to issue subpoenas. those require people to testify, to turn over documents. it s a very powerful aspect of what the grand jury does. now, a couple of things about the grand jury. of course, this grand jury has been impanelled by the manhattan district attorney, cy vance. it s one-sided. it s only the prosecutor, grand jury, and court reporter. there s no judge. there s no defense lawyer. it s extreme lid one-sided. you ve heard the expression the grand jury would indict a ham sandwich. there s some truth to that. now, in order to indict, you don t need all the grand jurors, right? you need a jury. a trial jury has to be unanimous to convict.
all you need is the majority, 12 of the 23 grand jurors, and stand dard of proof is way down here as opposed to beyond a reasonable doubt. so you have a lower bar to begin with, they re extremely persuadable by the prosecutor to begin with, and you only need a majority, which is why the saying goes, you could indict a ham sandwich. why would you call a special grand jury? if you want a grand jury that s going to have a lot of information to process and absorb that would take longer than a week or a day. what are we looking at? a lot of financial charges. the main gist appears to be on how the trump organization valued its assets. the allegation or belief is at some point it would deflate the value of the assets. at other times they would allegedly inflate the value of
