South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R) is planning to reintroduce his police reform bill in the coming weeks.
On Wednesday, Scott told reporters on Capitol Hill that he’s trying to work across the aisle to see if a bipartisan compromise can be reached. He said he is having talks with California Representative Karen Bass (D) and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker (D).

Democrats and Republicans both introduced competing police reform bills in 2020, neither of which got very far.

Police respond to a reported shooting near Jim Lu Grocery Food Mart on Government Street on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
BATON ROUGE - On Tuesday morning, representatives with the Baton Rouge Police Department responded to a shooting at a convenience store on Government Street.
It was shortly after 8:30 a.m. when shots were reportedly fired at Jim Lu Grocery Food Mart, which is on the corner of South 17th Street and Government Street.
Officials say one person was injured during the incident and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

It happened in the 12900 block of Telge Road late Wednesday morning.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said preliminary information showed a deputy and a cadet trainee, who is experienced but new to the department, were called to the store about a man with a knife who was acting erratic.
