change to washington, d.c. honesty, accountability, and change. the president certainly has changed some things though not in the way he said he would. over the course of his first 100 days in office, donald trump has radically transformed ethical standards and expectations held by the public for the occupants of the white house. it s arguably his biggest accomplishment, if you could call it that, to date. it s happened so quickly and in such routine increments, it s easy to lose sight of how far we ve come. let s just take stock. donald trump is our first full-time businessman president with active interests. he refuses to divest from or put in a blind trust and from which, according to his lawyer, he can withdraw money at any time. now, he will not disclose the details of his finances, breaking with decades of tradition on releasing presidential tax returns. but we know he holds assets all over the world including places where his own financial interests might conflict with the int
today a new report lays out why. according to politico, a lobbying firm co-founded by lewandowski appears to have been pitching clients around the world by offering poll and i and political advice but also face time with president trump, vice president mike pence and senior members of the administration. people are familiar with lewandowski s pitch to potential clients say he has pledged he will personally call trump or his cabinet members if necessary. this is precisely the kind of money for access pay to play that trump and his surrogates accused hillary clinton of, citing appearances of conflict of interest between the clinton foundation donors and her work as secretary of state with trump himself calling it, and i quote here, a criminal enterprise despite the fact there was no criminal charges of any kind. part of what defined donald trump s campaign was his promise to drain the swamp, to rid washington of its revolving-door process. you could argue that it s part of the reason he
that if he s bad at one thing, he ll be bad at the other. right. i think we need to just be honest with ourselves about this too. like with nafta, people today, like on my side of the political fence, are like, yeah, another promise. but it s kind of wait a minute. we were for bernie, and we were against nafta. back in flint, believe me, we ve been against nafta for 25 years. of course. so it s but here s my question. doesn t it feel in a weird way, it s like the basic idea of like the populist insurgent versus the establishment. part of the first 100 days, it s true, the establishment does kind of control washington. right. at some level on these certain things, right? it s like he started getting the calls and he got gary cohn, and it s like you can t undo nafta. exactly. i think all these shows this week, everybody, you know, we re here tonight talking about the first 100 days of trump. but what about the first 100 days of the resistance? i m glad you said that bec
organized, well-funded effort on the ground by conservative groups and the kochs are just part of this. they ve gone after school boards, state s attorneys generals. not just legislators. it s really this overwhelming effor effort. this has been the key to giving them control. the way to control washington is through the states. and the republicans figured it out. the democrats literally missed it. by the way, the democrats have just as much money as the republicans do. where are they spending it? i don t agree with everything howard dean did. one thing he did do that i totally agree with, he invoked the 50-state strategy. president obama did not invest in states. that s one thing this new chair and something that president obama could do in the coming months and years, perhaps. and you have to find
really can be done? what can they accomplish here? as with any outgoing president president obama s focus right now is really about preserving his legacy as much as he can. i think the reality really is that there is not much he can do at this point once he leaves office. and particularly given the fact that republicans are about to control the house, the senate, and the white house. this is a moment that republicans of course have waited for for many years. and this is why we are seeing the republican party move so quickly to try to deal with repealing obama care. this is something that they have talked about for years, really ever since obama care became law in 2010. and but look. when the president meets with delts again this is going to be more about sort of talking about the messaging that democrats can talk about in the new congress. but again not much that democrats can do when it comes to something like repealing obama care because republicans will fully control washington.
