John Trasacco, one of three people charged with former State Rep. Michael DiMassa in a series of COVID-19 embezzlement conspiracies, was ordered into court Wednesday and told he could get a significantly reduced sentence if he accepted a plea bargain offer.
Federal prosecutors and FBI agents presented evidence in court suggesting DiMassa blew tens of thousands of dollars of the stolen money at the Mohegan Sun Casino, where his purchases of tens of thousands of dollars in gambling chips correspond with illegal diversions of COVID money.
DiMassa, who also held a variety of positions in the West Haven city government, and his business associate associate John Bernardo, had been charged previously with stealing more than $600,000 in federal COVID relief money distributed to West Haven, but are both named in the new indictment.
