Bombardier consortium wins rail systems tender for Mexico s Mayan Train project

Reuters 2 minute read A consortium led by a unit of Bombardier Inc (BBDb.TO) won a bid for the rolling stock and rail systems for Mexico s flagship Mayan Train infrastructure project, the government said on Wednesday. The project represents an investment of 36.6 billion Mexican pesos ($1.84 billion) and includes the design, manufacture, delivery, testing and commissioning of 42 trains, the National Tourism Promotion Fund (Fonatur) said in a statement. The consortium was led by Bombardier Transportation MÃ©xico SA de CV and also included France-based Alstom SA (ALSO.PA) , Mexican firm Gami Ingenieria e Instalaciones S.A. de C.V, the Mexican unit of Azvi S.A.U. known as Construcciones Urales S.A. de C.V., and Construcciones Urales Procesos Industriales SA de C.V.

Mexico’s National Tourism Promotion Fund (Fonatur) announced on May 26 that a consortium led by Alstom (formerly Bombardier Transportation México) was the successful bidder for an open international public tender for the acquisition of 42 trains and railway systems for the 902-mile (1452-km) Mayan Train project on the Yucatan peninsula. Fonatur says the Alstom bid had the highest score and the lowest cost. Alstom bid $1.84 billion (Pesos 36.6 billion) compared with the CAF consortium’s offer of $1.89 billion (Pesos 37.5 billion), representing a savings of $44.79 million (Pesos 890 million).
