3 law panels recommended to split SC into two: Law minister | India News

NEW DELHI: Should the Supreme Court split into two: a Constitutional Court at Delhi and Court of Appeal or Federal Court sitting in North, South, East, West and Central India. Responding to a question in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad referred to three Law Commission reports to assert that all of them reiterated to split the apex court into two to help litigants. “This will reduce the distance travelled and the cost borne by the litigants,” he said. Although the SC had in a 2010 judgment rejected the idea of splitting the apex court, however, in another writ petition later, the issue was referred to a Constitution bench and the matter is currently sub judice.
