Barbadians can now pay their bills at self-service kiosks and have greater access to digital alternatives to physical cash thanks to Bahamian fintech company Island Pay.During a ceremony on Monday at the Constitution River Terminal, The City, where the first kiosk is located, general manager of Island Pay Barbados, Omar Watson, said the company was on a mission to help the island evolve its financial services by introducing modern technology and partnering with government entities and the private sector to make business transactions easier and more convenient.He said commuters would be able to pay bills at some of the island’s terminals, adding that the company would soon be issuing credit cards and incorporating the new Trident ID card in its range of services.“Besides our budding relationship with the Transport Authority, we also very soon expect to have the new Barbados digital ID as a recognisable instrument at our kiosk and potentially play our part in many more Government dri

Caddle stresses need for projects in constituency

Member of Parliament for St Michael South Central Marsha Caddle is calling for the implementation of the proposed Halls Road Commercial Village to provide employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for young people in her constituency.The Government backbencher said the vision was part of the St Michael South Central manifesto even prior to the 2018 general elections when residents of that constituency first elected her as their representative.She said while the Constitution River project, part of which is in her constituency, has been executed, the commercial village is still necessary to make young people feel as if the space really belongs to them.

Hyatt construction to begin soon - Barbados Today

Construction of the highly-anticipated Hyatt Centric Hotel at Carlisle Bay is to begin soon, Senior Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr William Duguid announced in Parliament on Tuesday.Although not giving a date for the start of the delayed project, he said: “I understand that the Hyatt had some setbacks with its financing but they are soon about to start the construction of the Hyatt.”Minister Duguid offered no other details about the progress of the $175 million project which will feature 380 rooms and 40 condominium units.He also announced that negotiations will soon start regarding the establishment of another hotel development.
