insurrection, you can t serve in congress. voters in georgia challenged marjorie greene s ability to be on the ballot. what they re doing is now she has gone into federal court to try to say that those voters don t have the ability to challenge her candidacy. that s what is coming up in the air. the federal court has said the state can go ahead, there will be a hearing on friday. interestingly in north carolina, where the courts had originally said that voters couldn t challenge representative madison cawthorn s presence on the ballot, the fourth circuit has now reopened that matter and they, too, will have a hearing. we ll see progress with no guarantee that the outcome will be removal of the candidates from the ballot. best case it would be something like the votes for them couldn t be counted and there would be signage saying if you vote for one of these candidates, you ballot won t count. fascinating. we ll have to bring you back to talk about this one because yes, this is consti
what about historical precedent? do we know if any air force members were staying there before this president? exactly. is that something they could take into consideration? not like do you know whether or not any air force people stayed in trump properties. they should absolutely take that into consideration. especially because emoluments clause litigation has almost never happened in our country s history. there are about three precedents and none of them have any relationship to this kind of activity. we re talking about, could president reagan accept his retirement benefits from the state of california. those are the issues that the court have confronted in the past. and there is nothing at all like a president with a far-reaching empire of hotels and resorts, around the globe. so we are on new ground here in many ways. i always feel like during his presidency, we have been getting constitution 101 class. learning a lot about the federal government. that we have nev
critical word in the constitution. it is something we should know. i m glad you re helping us with constitutional law. i don t want to admit that i knew what emolument was, five years ago, i didn t say that, how dare you. thanks for joining us. with that, we switch gears now and bring in nbc meteorologist michelle grossman with a quick update on the weather. turning on the heat in the south. the south is going to be baking today. an area of high pressure pumping in the heat. and the jet stream is so far to the north and the heat will extend up to the northern plains and north of, that we have cooler air, so we are going to see a clash of air masses causing a chance for severe storms. today though, the heat is on, and it is going to continue over the next several days as well. take a look at some of these numbers. we re looking at mid to upper 90s. feeling hotter than that once you factor in the humidity though. birmingham, 98. atlanta, 97. panama city, 91. that will continue
the constitution 101 on the in the powers of the article i branch, which nancy pelosi is putting on a clinic. as you said, she s wielding her power so thoroughly and so efficiently and so publicly in a way that we don t normally see women, you know, do. she s not doing it with the sort of demure way we expect women to do. she s just wielding her power period. keir so used to weak speakers. we re not used to it. donald trump is getting this lesson with the rest of the country. clearly he knows nothing about the constitution. but for the first time, his infliction of misery on people, his lack of empathy for people is coming up against another power trying to stop him. the tragedy is the other half of the article i power is apparently just as callous as donald trump. i see no more concern in mitch mcconnell, no more compassion than i see in trump. in trump, we know this is who he is. we re finding out this is also who mitch mcconnell is. and barbara, i want to read you something that
his father has done a lot of evictions. they know from their end of it how that works. and mitch mcconnell is the person who now will be as responsible as donald trump for faye smith getting evicted if she does. yeah, and not only doing evictions. if you follow history as tony schwarz and others have laid out, using tactic like not fixing the heat, making the apartment so unlivable that people essentially self-evict and leave in order to redevelop properties into luxury condominium. he s used to inflicting suffering on people that he thinks are disposable in order to get his way. this is the way he operates. and, you know, unfortunately, the country is getting a couple of lessons at once. we re getting a forced lesson in the constitution 101 on the in the powers of the article i branch, which nancy pelosi is putting on a clinic. as you said, she s wielding her
