Constellation Energy has agreed to purchase NRG Energy's 44% stake in the South Texas Project for USD1.75 billion. The plant - located about 90 miles southwest of Houston - comprises two 1280 MWe pressurised water reactors which began providing electricity in 1988 and 1989, respectively.
The USA's first-of-its-kind 1 MW demonstration scale, nuclear-powered clean hydrogen production facility has begun operating at Constellation's Nine Mile Point nuclear power plant in Oswego, New York. The company said the new facility will help demonstrate the potential for hydrogen to power a clean economy.
US utility Constellation has announced it will invest USD800 million in new equipment to increase the output of its Braidwood and Byron nuclear power plants in Illinois by some 135 MWe. They were among the Illinois nuclear plants saved from premature retirement by passage of the state Climate and Equitable Jobs Act in 2021.
