They’re called constellations. Most folks who see them for the first time conclude they were identified and named by folks who, if nothing else, had vivid imaginations.
How could a “W” shaped group of stars be interpreted as a lady in a chair, and how could a simple two-star arrangement be a dog?
The exception is the constellation Orion.
It’s the one-star pattern that most everyone can imagine as the figure of a man … a hunter, with a starry belt with a sword hanging from it.
